Bari Weiss, CBS News new editor-in-chief, is revamping the networks standards and procedures with a new masthead. This move comes after controversy over a pulled sixty minutes segment, Inside CECOT, which examined a prison in El Salvador. Weiss pulled the story due to missing statements from key government departments, sparking debate over editorial decisions and political influence. To address these issues, the masthead plans to establish a tighter chain of command and uniform processes, aiming to provide more oversight for sensitive stories. Weiss, a former New York Times columnist, brings her experience in navigating editorial challenges to her new role at CBS.The Daily News Now! - Every city. Every story. AI Powered. Hosted on Acast. The American Civil Liberties Union challenges Missouris new congressional maps, aiming to halt their implementation next year. The group, representing voters, argues the maps, designed to favor Republicans, should be suspended due to a statewide vote initiated by over 300,000 petition signatures. However, Attorney General Catherine Hanaway maintains the maps remain in effect until signatures are verified. The redrawn lines threaten Democrat Representative Emanuel Cleavers seat, and Hanaway warns against suspending laws based on unverified signatures. With local officials checking signatures until July 28th, and Hoskins possibly deciding even later, this is one of nine lawsuits over the maps. Nationwide, redistricting battles intensify, with Missouris fight illustrating how these lines determine Congressional power, likely to be decided by courts soon. The Daily News Now! - Every city. Parents with kids under eighteen were hit the hardest, with nearly half borrowing to cover costs. Most turned to traditional credit cards, with sixty-two percent using them. The debt lingers, with sixty-three percent saying it will take three months or longer to pay off. Consumer spending stayed strong, but average credit card balances climbed to six thousand five hundred twenty-three dollars per person. Experts warn this mix of big spending, costly credit, and stretched budgets could leave many households feeling the pinch for months to come. The Daily News Now! - Every city. Every story. AI Powered. U.S. Immigration Officials Detain Applicants at Green Card Interviews, Causing Fear and UncertaintyU.S. immigration officials are now detaining individuals during green card interviews, turning a previously safe final step into a surprise arrest for some. This is particularly impacting marriage-based applicants, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents appearing at Citizenship and Immigration Services offices in recent weeks. Even when petitions are approved on the spot, some individuals are taken into custody immediately. For instance, a man in San Diego who entered the U.S. legally as a child and overstayed his visa after marrying a U.S. citizen was told his case was perfect and approved during his interview, but was later arrested by ICE. Similarly, a woman in Cleveland who has lived in the U.S. for twenty-five years was held during her interview due to an old removal order from her parents missing a court date years ago.Immigration attorneys report that clients are terrified, with many skipping interviews or even filing for status altogether. One lawyer noted that people feel like theyre walking into a trap, pushing them away from the legal path.Officials defend the policy, stating that the Trump administration made it clear: break immigration laws like overstaying a visa, and face deportation. This represents a significant shift from before, when spouses of citizens saw these interviews as low-risk due to carve-outs in the law for immediate relatives. As these detentions increase, advocates worry that it will further clog the system and leave families in limbo, forcing more to stay in the shadows instead of seeking legal residency. The Daily News Now! - Every city. The Supreme Court denies Trumps request to deploy National Guard in Chicago, blocking hundreds of soldiers from aiding in protests against immigration policies. The move is part of Trumps strategy to use military in Democratic-led cities, which critics argue targets political opponents. Trump had previously deployed troops to Portland, Los Angeles, Memphis, and Washington, D.C. The National Guard typically answers to state governors, but presidents can federalize them under specific laws. Trumps team portrays these cities as chaotic with violent protests, but Democratic mayors, governors, and local cops describe the gatherings as small, mostly peaceful, and under control. Federal judges have sided with locals, calling the administrations claims overblown. The Supreme Courts decision comes after a Chicago federal judge and an appeals court panel blocked the Illinois deployment, stating protests at an immigration site were not riots or rebellions. The legal back-and-forth highlights deep divides over when the military steps into domestic disputes. The Daily News Now! - Every city. Every story. AI Powered. Hosted on Acast. The Department of Justice is suing Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Attorney General Kwame Raoul over two new state laws. These laws, the Illinois Bivens Act and the Court Access, Safety, and Participation Act, are accused of unconstitutionally blocking federal immigration enforcement and putting federal officers at risk of huge civil lawsuits. The laws create new ways to sue federal agents and allow for punitive damages against them, potentially scaring off enforcement efforts. Illinois leaders defend the measures as protections in sensitive spots, but federal prosecutors argue they hinder operations by releasing dangerous criminals. This lawsuit marks the latest clash in the ongoing battle between federal and state governments over immigration rules. The Daily News Now! - Every city. Every story. AI Powered. Hosted on Acast. Listen to this!
Welfare queen Elonia, grifting off of the American public while sucking on the government tit.
A Muslim saving the Jews - if only Israeli Zionists were capable of showing the same heroism and respect. If Netanyahu wasn't such a despicable anus, perhaps there'd be less antisemitism in the world.
Charlie was a xenophobic, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, antisemitic bigot. He platformed clips of himself talking down to those trying to partake in good faith debate. He made fun of his "debate" opponents, spoke derogatorily about the impoverished, the educated, & LGBTQ+ folx. His views on women were laughably antiquated. He was in his 30s, "debating" college kids to make himself look smarter than he was. He spewed fallacies not facts. Now his pronouns are "he/was." Good riddance.
Now THAT'S an experienced firm!
Van Holland is 100% right to be critical of Israel's conduct in Gaza; his lack of support for sending financial aid & weapons to Israel is justified, regardless of what ZOA & Halber proclaim. Organizations like this like to think they speak for all Jews, but this couldn't be further from the truth. Many Jews support the nation state of Israel but are disgusted by war criminal Netanyahu & his murderous regime. Orgs don't speak for an entire ethnicity of people who have very diverse viewpoints.
You're giving this Ai a backstory? Ridiculous. The mispronunciations of easy words and names (Bondi is BON-dee, *not* BOND-eye; Antifa is An-TEE-fuh, not ANT-ee-fah, etc.), the strange, bizarre cadence and pauses after easy words mid-sentence on EVERY episode as if pausing to read the next line of a teleprompter which is unnatural for any human reading... absolutely CRAZY that you don't realize how poorly this seemingly first-generation Ai speaks. The monotony is also a terrible trait. Get real.
Because it was 100% staged. I was in Butler at the rally. Within milliseconds of the shot, before Trump even arose off the ground, one of his staffers *ran over and lowered the flag halfway down,* and other staffers guided photogs right to where they needed to be, in order to get the fist in the air pic. It was a real rally, but Mark Burnett & other film industry insiders had a skeleton crew there who signed NDAs. Such a set up. Shocked this hasn't been uncovered yet.
Y'all need to stop calling this a "fragile truce". This is not, and never was, a ceasefire nor peace agreement. Neither Netanyahu nor Hamas signed ANYTHING. The closest this war came to being an actual ceasefire was in January under Biden; at least that lasted until March. Netanyahu is a war criminal, full stop.
